About the Initiative
Mount Vernon Reform Initiative is a grassroots, resident-led organization advocating for proven, good-government reforms that put Mount Vernon residents first. Our focus is not personalities or politics, but structure: how power is allocated, how decisions are made, and who is accountable to whom.
We believe Mount Vernon deserves the same standards of transparency, accountability, and professionalism that successful cities across the country already rely on. Our goal is not to centralize power or create a new political class. It is to shift power away from insiders and politics—and back toward neighborhoods, professional expertise, and the public interest.
Our Reform Framework
Our reform agenda is grounded in national best practices and reflects how well-run cities across the United States already govern themselves. It rests on widely accepted principles of good government:
Administrative and Financial oversight grounded in credentials and expertise.
Fair representation where every neighborhood has a representative who is their voice.
One ballot for all voters, candidates judged on merit, and less party-machine control.
Together, these reforms strengthen accountability, improve service delivery, and ensure government works for residents – not insiders.
